The work scope was performed over a two year period under two separate contracts. The first contract was for installation of the shore protection at the abutments and associated groins around the pile structure for the two (2) bridges. The second contract installed the rip rap to prevent erosion of the breach channel beds.

The shore protection work included poured in place concrete mats where 80% of the mat surface was installed under water in depths of 8 feet in the Beaufort Sea, which posed a significant challenge. Due to the remote location and significant grout quantity of 4,500 cubic yards required for mat injection, a concrete batch plant was mobilized and set up on site. Another challenge was the below water grout injection methods that required underwater diving teams.
